Moura, Mourão and Barrancos – conservation of the natural heritage of a region
As part of the celebrations of LIFE 20th anniversary, LIFE Habitat Lince Abutre invites you to participate on May 22 on an open day to disclosure this financial instrument targeted at environment and nature conservation.
During this event, it will be presented several LIFE – Nature projects that during the last years have contributed to the conservation of the biodiversity of the region of Moura and Barrancos, among them LIFE Habitat Lince Abutre and LIFE Lince Moura/Barrancos (Recovery of the Iberian lynx habitat at Moura/Barrancos Site; September 2006 – December 2009).
Because 1992 was also the year of Habitats Directive (Council Directive 92/43/CEE of 21 May 1992), we are also celebrating the 20th anniversary of this directive, which main goal is to contribute to secure biodiversity through the conservation of natural habitats (annex I) and of wild species of flora and fauna (annex II) considered threatened in the European Union territory. Therefore, and in an event that will be held at Moura, we will discuss the implementation of Natura 2000 network in this region and the importance of the Moura/Barrancos Site under the scope of this Directive.
The participants of this event may also visit the exhibition of the comic ‘Iberian lynx: its history in Portugal’ (a book produced under the scope of LIFE Habitat Lince Abutre), consisting of a complete copy of the illustrator’s original drawings, some of its originals boards watercolor painted and the project’s expanding screens.
Come and celebrate this date with LIFE Habitat Lince Abutre and get to know a little more about the work of excellence that has been done at the Site of Community Importance Moura/Barrancos thanks to LIFE Programme support.
We’ll soon make available more information on the event’s location and program
