The school year reaches the end and with it the environmental awareness activities at the schools of Caldeirão Hills
Once again in the school year of 2012/2013, the schools of Caldeirão promptly accepted our invitation to participate in the awareness and educational activities about the Iberian lynx and the black vulture. Besides talks and a quiz about Habitat Lince Abutre LIFE project, about 150 students from middle and upper school also accepted to participate in our challenge ‘Help the Iberian lynx and the black vulture’. The challenge consisted of the elaboration of a year-end school work about the project and its target species, having the students chosen the categories ‘arts’ and ‘writing’ (e.g. lyrics, tales).
At each school, all school works were evaluated by a jury composed by an element of the technical team of the project, the animator responsible for the environmental education activities (of the local association In-LOCO) and the president (or a representative) of the local civil parish. All the students received an award for its work.
The firsts to present their works were the students of Year 8 of the School EB2/3 Padre João Coelho Cabanita, from Loulé, who received us enthusiastically, on June 5th, at their school garden. Nearly 40 students participated in this challenge, having talked about the Iberian lynx, the black vulture, the Mediterranean landscape and what they learned with this challenge. All the school works were brilliant, which made the choice for the first place difficult!
The first place went to Cárin, Catarina, Gonçalo, Irina and Patrícia, who created not only a t’shirt but also a leaflet with information on the Iberian lynx, the black vulture and the reasons why we should protect these species. ‘Love, Protect, Save’ was the important message that they wanted to pass us… they succeeded!

The second place went to Carolina, Natasha, Mariana, Priscila and Ana Rita, who created an original t´shirt with a message in the front written with the lynx coat pattern and its pervasive look in the back.

On June 6th we headed to the First and Middle School of Professor Sebastião Teixeira of Salir, where 35 students from Year 7 to 8 received us. At this school, we were presented a tale, music (category ‘writing’) and stickers (category ‘arts’). Once again the choice was not easy…
In the category ‘writing’, Alice, Beatriz, Cristina, Olga and Ana, from Year 8, shone with the funny letter they wrote for the music “Gangnam Style”, about what they learned about the lynx and the black vulture. The result led them to the so much earned first place. You can listen to their music at our
Facebook.
