Children’s book ‘The adventures of Manchas & Bui’
1 June 2012

PRESS RELEASE

On June 1, Children’s Day, the Habitat Lince Abutre LIFE project launches another awareness material! Thus, in such a special date, we are glad to announce our latest publication, specially targeted at the youngest: ‘The adventures of Manchas & Bui’. This children’s book tell us the story of Manchas (an Iberian lynx) and Bui (a black vulture) and its daily adventures and threats in the Mediterranean woodlands, their home. Additionally, it also has several pedagogic activities that will help children to better understand the book’s contents and message.

This small book will be distributed to children aged 6-12 years old from the project’s intervention area, namely from the regions of Moura, Mourão and Barrancos, Guadiana Valley and Caldeirão Mountain. We aim to raise awareness among the youngest about environmental issues and to the need to conserve species and their habitats, such as the Mediterranean landscape.

The LIFE project ‘Enhancing habitat for the Iberian lynx and the black vulture in the southeast of Portugal’ aims to contribute to the improvement of the survival, feeding and breeding conditions of the Iberian lynx and the black vulture, two species critically endangered in Portugal and with important roles in the ecosystem, while also benefiting a wide set of other threatened species.

This project is coordinated by League for the Protection of Nature (LPN), in partnership with other public and private entities, namely the Center for Studies of Iberian Avifauna (CEAI), the National Association of Game Producers and Landowners (ANPC), the Association of Moura’s Young Farmers (AJAM), the General-Directorate of Veterinary Services (DGV), the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Biodiversity (ICNB) and the Centre for Social Research and Intervention (CIS / ISCTE-IUL). Lasting for four years, from January 2010 until December 2013, this project is co-funded in 75% by the LIFE – Nature Programme of the European Commission.
